The Serie A starts again, but one day later than expected: it was to start on Saturday with Samp-Verona, instead the first game of the new era will be Parma-Spal, at 12.30 on Sunday. Milan-Genoa slips at 15, like Samp-Verona itself, at 18 it’s Udinese-Fiorentina’s turn, at 20.45 Juventus-Inter is staged, the challenge of discord and the Scudetto. Sassuolo-Brescia, which will close the tormented 26 day, will be played at 18 on Monday. The recoveries of the sixth day have also been made official: Atalanta-Sassuolo, Verona-Cagliari and Turin-Parma will take place on Wednesday 18 March at 18.30.
For the rest, the calendar remains virtual. The League, which at first seemed oriented to make it public until Easter, found itself having to solve a series of perhaps unexpected problems: the pressing demands of the clubs and the war of the TVs, not to mention that the postponement of the days sends haywire the alternations between the teams of the same city (Verona, between Hellas and Chievo) and those of the same region (Naples and Salernitana for example). The discussions continue, the certainties remain weak. Sky and Dazn, as far as possible, have chosen to stay with the same games assigned by the old calendar. Days and times will change, even compared to the draft calendar prepared two days ago. The advances and postponements, scheduled until Easter, may vary.
Football in the time of the coronavirus difficult and without certainties. UEFA has made official that Valencia-Atalanta, the return of the Champions League round of 16, scheduled for next Tuesday, will be played behind closed doors. Seville-Rome and Getafe-Inter risk the same fate. And Damiano Tommasi, president of Assocalciatori, advises UEFA to consider postponing the European championship and confesses that among the players there are those who agree to go ahead and those who are worried. We will take all possible precautions, but the players on the field also risk. And in case of contagion, the quarantine rules also apply to professionals.
The season remains a big question mark. And when the calendar comes out, Inter-Sampdoria, which will be played on the first possible date, remains undated, says the press release in via Rosellini. Just as the fate of the Italian Cup remains a big question mark. The idea of a final four to four to play in a city at the end of the season is taking shape, taking into account the results of the first leg. But only plan B to put into practice if Juventus and Inter arrive at the bottom of their respective European cups.
Closed doors are the only way to try and save the season, but they carry a series of problems. The coaches are worried about the possible drop in tension of the players, generated by the unreal silence as if the game was a training. The League, after reading the government decree, advised the clubs to halve the presence of the media in the press stands, but in some plants, such as Milan, it is easy for the presence to be even smaller to avoid gatherings. To cope with the emergency, President Dal Pino collected the proposal of the enemy Marotta and convened an assembly at the Via Rosellini headquarters for next Thursday. We need to tackle the problem all together, but unity in the League does not exist.
