The rush of Jannik Sinner in the “Oracle Challenger Series”, ATP Challenger with a $ 162,480 prize pool being held in Indian Wells, stops in the round of 16. On the night between Thursday and Friday, the 18-year-old Italian was eliminated by the American Denis Kudla, world number 114, in three sets for 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2.

Sinner, number 71 ATP and sixth seeded, returned to the field in the Italian evening for the round of 16 of the Californian tournament. The Azzurri Next Gen was back from the good 6-0 victory, 6-1 in the second round against the Dutchman Sem Verbeek. Tonight the Pustertal faced the 27-year-old local darling Denis Kudla for the first time in his career, current number 114 in the world rankings which four years ago was number 53 in the ATP ranking.

Game immediately full of emotions. In the first set Sinner wasted two break points on 2-2. On the other hand, Kudla tore the beaten turn from blue to zero. In the seventh game Sinner did not take advantage of two other break balls, while the local darling subsequently closed the set, with another break, on 6-3.

In the second part of the game Sinner immediately went on 2-0. Then the Pustertal has wasted even six break points of the possible 3-0. Sinner only turned one of the 12 breakpoints in the whole game. Soon after Kudla conquered the 2-2 tie rebreak. Then both tennis players took their striking rounds until 6-6. In the tiebreak Sinner got the better of 7-4. In the third, decisive partial Kudla ran away, thanks to two breaks, on 3-0. The blue has never recovered from this blow: after two hours and 18 minutes of play, the American ended the match on the 6-2 final.

Sinner is already looking forward to the next important commitment. Jannik will play next week in the Indian Wells Masters 1000. For Sinner it is the second Masters 1000 in his career after that of Rome, for the first time he will start, thanks to his world ranking, in the main draw.
