If Italian football has finally found the scoreboard for Serie A recovery, now another chapter opens, that of Italian Cup. The postponement of Juventus-Milan and Napoli-Inter entails an additional difficulty, which could be overcome through two roads: the postponement of the final 13 to May, 20th with the semifinals play just thirteen or play the final in August in the middle of summer.
The first solution would be the most logical and simple, the only risk is related to Inter-Sampdoria. If the Nerazzurri left the Europa League, they would go on this road. If instead they went ahead in the cup, they would need an available date to recover the match of the 25th round of the championship: semi-finals and final of the Italian Cup plus Inter-Samp, would be three dates to be set between 13 and 20 May thus making the final slide forward a further week.
With Euro2020 and the early withdrawals of the national teams, however, it would be difficult to go beyond May 20 and here is the summer hypothesis which, however, finds many opposing opinions since two teams would face each other who would have made the path to the final with a team and then they would play the cup reinforced by the market summer. A distortion that could also find regulatory-regulatory obstacles.
If the second hypothesis were embraced, there are those who already go further inspired by the Spanish Super Cup: a summer mini-tournament featuring the four semi-finalists effectively moving all the remaining rounds of the Italian Cup to the 2020/21 season. In these chaotic days, the governance of football will also have to think about this.
