Energy bonus: from waste to sewerage, here is the guide to all the news

A new bonus Tari, the waste tax. And again, a reinforced discount on the bill of water which will also include the costs associated with the services of sewerage and purification. These are just some of the legislative innovations regarding the expected benefits for energy supplies of users who find themselves in conditions of economic and physical hardship and for holders of income and pension of citizenship. Here’s what changes for social bonuses with the latest legislative measures.

The new waste bonus is coming
With the tax decree comes it discount on the bill it also extends to the integrated municipal waste service. It will be up to the Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment (Arera) to ensure access to the new Tari bonus, at favorable conditions as already happens for electricity, gas and water supplies, as well as to define the methods for implementing the benefit. “Taking into account the recovery of efficient service and investment costs” and on the basis of the principles and criteria identified by a decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (which must be issued by April 23). The requirements for access are the same as for the other bonuses: families with Isee (the indicator used to evaluate the economic situation) does not exceed 8,265 euros, a threshold that rises to 20 thousand for large families (with at least 4 dependent children). The discount is then accessible to holders of income and citizenship pension.

The water discount extends to sewer and purification
The tax decree also provides for an expansion of the water bonus, the concession applied in the water bill which will also include the discount for costs related to sewerage and treatment services. The strengthening started on 1 January: the Arera will define the methods for quantifying, recognizing and disbursing the new discount. The conditions of access will be the same as for the other bonuses. The discount, also extended to sewerage and treatment, will cover approximately a family of three in need (with consumption of 150 cubic meters per year) one third of the value of annual expenditure incurred for the water bill.

New Isee to access social bonuses
From January 1, it is worth mentioning, a new roof has been activated to access the discounts provided for families in conditions of economic hardship in their electricity, gas and water bills. The Energy Authority has in fact raised the Isee bar from 8,107.5 to 8265 euros, leaving the alternative requirements for obtaining the concession unchanged. With the new roof, the facility will be extended to another 200 thousand families. All information on social bonuses is available on the Authority’s website or at the telephone counter 800 166 654 (active from 8 to 18 from Monday to Friday) always established by the Arera.

The terms for renewing the request for social bonuses are slipping
The amounts of the various social bonuses vary according to the type of facility, but the duration is the same: the discount is applied for twelve months and, at the end of this period, the citizen must renew the request to obtain a new facility. According to what is reported by the System of management of subsidies on energy tariffs (SGATE) – which allows Municipalities to fulfill their social bonus obligations – the terms for renewal of bonuses have been extended from 31 December 2019 to 29 February 2020 for those valid until 31 January 2020. Applications must be submitted with a Isee certificate valid on the first day of the start of the renewal.
