According to the data of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality State Directorate; Meeting the fresh fruit and vegetable needs of Istanbul, Bayrampaşa and Ataşehir Yaş Fruit and Vegetable Halls 3 million 17 thousand 29 tons in 2015, 3 million 126 thousand 776 tons in 2016, 3 million 5 thousand 364 tons in 2017, 2 million 816 thousand in 2018 408 tons of fruit and vegetables were brought.

In 2019, this figure decreased to 2 million 779 thousand 335 tons. There has been a decrease of approximately 1.3 percent in the total amount of products, which became last year, compared to 2018. On the basis of tonnage, the decrease was 37 thousand 53 tons.

ISTANBUL PEOPLE EAT LESS FRUIT

In 2018, there was 1 million 220 thousand 376 tons of fruit inflows into Istanbul Halls, and in 2019 this tonnage decreased by 54 thousand 951 tons to 1 million 165 thousand 425 tons. The reduction rate between the two years approached 4.5 percent.

Vegetable inflow, which was 1 million 596 thousand 32 tons in 2018, increased by 17 thousand 898 tons in 2019 and reached 1 million 613 thousand 930 tons. The increase was 1.1 percent.

Watermelon and apple most eaten fruit

The most brought fruit in Istanbul in 2019 was watermelon with 156,555 tons. Berries were followed by apples with 122 thousand 110 tons, tangerines with 120 thousand 787 tons, oranges with 111 thousand 640 tons and bananas with 87 thousand 65 tons.

THE MOST INCREASE EXPERIENCE IN GRAPE

Looking at the fruits with the highest increase in tonnage, the highest increase compared to 2018 last year was in grapes. While the tonnage of grapes increased by 12,741, other fruits that increased in tonnage were melon with 8 thousand 748 tons, lemon with 3 thousand 946 tons, strawberry with 3 thousand 553 tons and apples with 1.834 tons.

TOMATOES AND POTATO AT THE BIG DIFFERENCE

In vegetables entering Istanbul, tomatoes and potatoes took the first and second place with great difference. In 2019, 431 thousand 893 tons of tomatoes, 190 thousand 176 tons of potatoes, 156 thousand 750 tons of cucumbers, 121 thousand 828 tons of peppers and 91 thousand 891 tons of onions came to the city in 2019.

TOMATO CHAMPION OF THE LAST 3 YEARS

Tomatoes ranked the first in vegetables, whose tonnage increased the most last year. The tonnage of tomatoes, which was 409 thousand 281 tons in 2018, increased 22 thousand 612 tons in 2019 and reached 431 thousand 893 tons. Tomatoes were followed by cauliflower, carrot, purslane and parsley.
