Iran, son of Green Wave leader Mahdi Karoubi arrested

Hossein Karoubi was arrested two days after the umpteenth arrest of his illustrious father: Mahdi Karoubi. The Iranian website says so Saham News. Mahdi, opposition leader in charge of the Green Wave, ran for the 2009 elections together with Hossein Mousavi. They lost, Ahmadinejad won. And millions of people took to the streets screaming at the rigging, to participate in what were then called the “green wave protests”, the color used by the main opponent of the winner, the reformist Mousavi. With the defeat, two years later the house arrest also arrived: segregated at home without formal accusations and without ever being tried.Dad Karoubi, 81, was arrested again two days ago. A few days earlier he had publicly invited the Supreme Guide, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to resign from his post for his management of the crash of the Ukrainian plane, mostly by mistake from an Iranian missile.

In an online statement, Karoubi asked Khamenei for an explanation: “When did you find out about the plane’s shooting down? And why was it so late to inform you about the real causes of the tragedy?” Karoubi has always been a critical voice of the Tehran regime. When protests broke out in November, and the government hid behind a finger pointed at foreign powers, the former candidate declared to the square: “The root and context of these protests lies in internal corruption, humiliation, discrimination and in inequality, not beyond the seas. “In 2017 he went on a hunger strike which caused a lot of hype across the country. Interrupted only by the acceptance of one of the two requests made: the withdrawal of the intelligence agents from his home, where he was still under house arrest since 2011. The second request, made by his wife Fatemeh, through the Saham News website, was a fair trial. This was not accepted. The trial never happened. And now father and son are arrested again surrendered. Hossein is Mahdi’s eldest son and was already in prison for six months 3 years ago “for propaganda against the regime”
