Following the appointment of Adali Marcus as Maccabi Tel Aviv CEO, Hapoel Tel Aviv passed a request this evening that Marcus “will immediately terminate his job in the league manager” – where he served as CEO for the past 15 years. At the same time, the league manager said that VP Shlomi Perry will serve as acting CEO until a new appointment, while Marcus will help with the overlap process.

“It is not possible that while we are dealing with the manager and Adley, the latter has been negotiating for a position in another team in the league, without advising the board of directors or chairing them until the last days,” the club statement said. “What’s more, how does anyone expect us to continue working for the next two months with someone who in a moment becomes a senior figure in a competing league team.”

Hapoel’s statement continued: “This appointment, and its continued work for the next few months, is a serious violation and a betrayal of the trust of the groups and the public. In our view, it will take a long time to restore public confidence in the principal and the first step should be taken immediately – when he quit his job. He does not serve as CEO, as far as we are concerned, and he is not allowed to deal with Hapoel Tel Aviv’s affairs. We also expect to impose clear restrictions on Marcus’ misconduct with regard to future work with entities in which he has been acting as CEO, for example, sponsors and use of information to which he has been exposed. We are reviewing all the options available to us in this matter, including legal proceedings. “

The league manager said: “This morning, League Director Shmuel Frankel with Vice President Shlomi Perry concluded that he will serve as CEO until the appointment of the new CEO, while Adli Marcus has pledged to help with the overlap process.”
