Paolo Guzzanti, in an editorial on Newspaper on newsstands Tuesday 3 December, talks about buying the group Expressed from John Elkann and of Fiat. Meanwhile, a Republic, since last spring a man completely foreign to the consanguineous clan has arrived as director as were Ezio Mauro and Mario Calabresi. This is Carlo Verdelli who was able to hang up the soul of the ancient artisan product to re-establish a continuity that worked both in the image and on a bloodless market. It is not known what will happen, nor if Verdelli will be replaced by a director expressed by the new owner, with much nervousness in the newsroom since Republic has already reached the strike a few days ago.

Nothing is known of the intentions of the new publishers, their plans, their (editorial) vision of the world. Personally, I think it would be a tremendous opportunity wasted, that of aborting the newly recovered soul of a biased newspaper as much as you want, but which requires a handcrafted ingenious bill. One might wonder if there is space today for a left-wing publishing house capable of representing what remains of the ancient and aged people. It is not just a journalistic and political bet, but an editorial one, therefore an entrepreneurial one. It is not clear if today such a club would have power of attraction, but it is certain that the genetic material of a snobbish left that appeals to the masses, risks perishing in the next editorial mutation and would condemn the left to its ancient vocation of pure repetitive boredom, of to which the left is dying everywhere in Europe.
