According to the team of Argentine-Ecuadorian scholars led by Galo Guaman of the Universidad tecnica particular of Loja (UTPL), the incomplete skeleton – among the oldest ever found in the Loja region, about 50 kilometers from the border with Peru – suggests that the dinosaur had a shell that protected it along the backbone, it had adapted to the vegetation that in the area reached a maximum height of 3 meters.

The name of the dinosaur is due to the area of origin of the fossils, Yamana, the southern region of the Equateur where they were found in 2017, and to Loja, where UTP researchers have just presented the discovery of the "first great fossil large vertebrate of the Cretaceous ".
In Ecuador, an equitable group for the paleontology of Sebastian Apesteguia encontro los restos of a titanosaurio que vivio hace 85 millones de anos. Es de un grupo llamado saltasaurinos de pequeno tamano (hasta 6 metros de largo), robustos y con coraza protectora. pic.twitter.com/nKmFjpxE2z

The analysis of the vertebrae, argued the Argentine paleontologist Sebastian Apesteguia, thanks also to the tomography, allowed to establish that it is a different species from sauropods (Saltasaurus) fiora known whose remains have been found in Argentina.
