MODENA. Difficult not to call it the future technological "heart" of Modena, ready in spring 2021. It is the Data Center under construction a few meters from the Pucci building, in Via Canaletto Sud, in an area that appears less and less degraded after the millions of euros invested in district that develops from the back of the station to the R-North and further on the former Livestock Market in via del Mercato.

There is still much to do, but yesterday Mayor Gian Carlo Muzzarelli and the new rector Carlo Porro carried out an on-site inspection to start explaining what the city data center will become.

There was talk of "heart" – even the mayor uses this term – because in this two-story building all public digital archives will be located in less than two years. Here will be placed numerous municipal servers and other private entities as well: these are the archives that, through the "bits" of the computer, keep every piece of information on everyone's life. A very important place, therefore, delicate and adequately protected, so much so that these complex machines have been chosen to place them on the first floor. An innovative choice too, given that often the servers are stored, just to protect them better, in the subsoil. Here, however, a choice of this type was not possible for the conformation of the subsoil and in any case the municipal administration opted for another solution in the context of the "Peripheral Project".

The financing is adequate for all this: 5 million euros for a structure of around 1600 square meters characterized by simplified volumes, large windows, anthracite-colored fiber cement slabs and exposed white reinforced concrete for the external walls.

Particular attention will be given to cooling systems, with specific dedicated systems for server rooms and ventilated walls, while on the roof will be placed photovoltaic panels and air handling units. Here there will be not only the Data Center, but also the Cyber ​​Security Academy of Unimore, currently in via Sant’Orsola. This will be on the ground floor with separate access while the area dedicated to "Masa" will be completed in the neighborhood with the facility doing research on the self-driving car. "This structure – explains the rector Porro – will be fundamental because it will ensure a close collaboration between the city and its university, in the field of security and technological research. A union of hardware and software that can only do good for the future of Modena ". The mayor Muzzarelli echoes: "Let us remember that this novelty makes it possible to enlarge the city even more in an area that was once unattractive. This technological machine, on the other hand, brings together the needs and skills of the public administration together and those of Unimore.

A technological heart that marries the automotive industry always present in the neighborhood ". If the temporary grouping of companies headed by "Iti Impresa generale spa" of Modena and "Site spa" of Bologna is operating on this site, there are many other companies involved in the redevelopment of Porta Nord and the already planned five roundabouts as well as improvements in via Canaletto and the extension of the railway underpass from Porta Nord to Piazza Dante. –
