The Delta plan for Alitalia involves 2800 redundancies while the binding offers could be delayed again from November 21st to the end of the month. Repubblica in an article signed by Lucio Cillis tells the details of the 2020-2023 industrial plan developed with Ferrovie dello Stato, in which the US company puts 100 million on the plate without meeting the demands of Italian partners:

The first theme concerns the fleet: the current share of 118 aircraft (26 on the long-haul and 92 on the medium) is no longer sustainable. The plan lowers the bar to 102 aircraft from next year (23 long and 79 medium), with a rise to 109 in 2023 (25 and 84). Revenues should increase from 3 billion to 106 million in 2020 to 3 billion and 654 million to the end of the plan. A forecast linked to the decrease in personnel (of around 2,800) and to the umpteenth and unrealistic optimization of rest and summer holidays for those flying.

For example, in 2021, 72 million more revenues are expected: a result that will come thanks to staff cuts, the forecast of a drop in the cost of fuel and not only for the planned investments. Medium-haul flights issue. A part of the network will be extended towards Eastern Europe: Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Bucharest. Furthermore, sixteen of the twenty most important European cities will be connected to Linate. In Italy, flights to and from Sicily, Sardinia and Calabria will be enhanced while Pisa, Florence and Naples from 2022 will lose flight connections to Rome's main hub, replaced by Ferrovie's "Frecce".

The long-range chapter is the one on which Alitalia's survival is being played out: here the tug-of-war with Delta – which does not give up additional flights to the United States so as not to irritate the ally Air France-Klm of which it owns 10% – risks to blow up the agreement. In particular, the aim is to strengthen "strategic markets" such as South Korea, China, Brazil and Mexico, while "unprofitable" connections will be reduced or canceled, as in the case of Delhi, Havana, Male from Malpensa, Santiago de Chile and Johannesburg . In addition, new flights are planned to Shanghai, San Francisco (summer only) and to Washington for the whole year. And again, the "machines" will be used more and better: a 20% increase in daily flight hours for long-haul aircraft and 3% for those on the medium is expected.

And Lufthansa? The company plans a decisive report on Alitalia on Monday. It will be the last call for the Germans: either money on the table or a green light for Delta.
