At the moment it is snowing and it is not certain that the helicopter rescue helicopter of the Pieve di Cadore may rise, as well as that of the Civil Defense, also pre-alerted.
The two mountaineers are on the crest of the Cima dei Preti, in the Friulian Dolomites, at an altitude of about 2,500 meters, on the Via dei Triestini, long and at times exposed crossing the crest of the aforementioned summit.
The ground teams are organizing themselves to try a walking approach, which will still be long and demanding for rescuers. Meanwhile, we are trying to identify their position with the technical means available.
UPDATE. The mountaineers stuck on the Cima dei Preti were reached at 3.20pm. They are both fine, apart from suffering from the cold and the night spent in the open. Rescuers have started recovery safely. Four other rescuers are going to meet the group from the Greselin Bivouac on the normal ascent route (800 meters in altitude) on the summit, from which they will then descend again to the Bivouac together with the rescued mountaineers, and another group of rescuers started from the bottom to go up to the Greselin Bivouac with other food and clothing (1200 meters in altitude) reinforcement.
It will take a few more hours to complete the operation since the main group has yet to regain the summit and from here descend, also tackling a rope descent. Two of the four support rescuers reached the summit, two more await at the point where the rope will be lowered and then easier to return to the Greselin Bivouac.
Twelve rescuers from the Veneto – Pieve di Cadore and Centro Cadore – had risen from the opposite side arriving in five hours until the Trident, not far from the rescuers of Valcellina, whose voices they heard. When the technicians of the Alpine Rescue of Friuli Venezia Giulia joined the mountaineers, he was told to return.
