Smartphones and high technology "made in Rwanda"
The government also offered various investment incentives such as free spaces for work, clear legislative rules and quick registration for commercial activities: all measures that have made it easy to create new businesses. To facilitate the development of high tech it is important to have the right infrastructure: for this reason the government has guaranteed the last five years 4G coverage for 95% of the country and as a result several companies have been created that offer free wi-fi on public transport and electronic payments for Kigali buses.
The development in high tech attracted the attention of Andela, a multinational specialized in training software engineers, who opened an office in Kigali and signed an agreement with the government for to recruit and provide six months of training to 500 Rwandans.
Even the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has opened its first electronic trading platform in Africa in Rwanda, with the aim of providing cloud computing services and electronic payments to all local businesses. Certainly other investments and other companies will follow, demonstrating that with the right incentives even a nation with a dramatic past like Rwanda can engage the most modern trains of development.
