New Skoda Octavia, here it is without veils

AND FOUR – After previewing it in a disguised prototype version (read here our first impressions), here are the veiled images of the fourth generation of the Skoda Octavia, which shows its world premiere in Prague. Let's talk about the more model venduto of the Czech house. Based on the latest edition of the Volkswagen group's MQB platform, the new generation of sedan and medium-sized wagon changes without revolution. Instead of the two quadrangular elements placed side by side, there is only one, thin and angular. The grille is larger, prominent and placed lower, and the bonnet more massive. In profile, a hint of miniskirt at the bottom. Thanks to the more inclined rear window, and to the thin headlights with horizontal development, rather than vertical, the car appears more slender. Measures? The length of the saloon and wagon has grown by two centimeters, reaching 469 cm, while the width has increased by 1.5 cm for a total of 183 cm. With the step that instead remained unchanged (268 cm).

REALLY WELCOMING – As soon as you board the new one Skoda Octavia, the quality of the interior is perceived, with materials that are pleasant to the touch and finishes of good quality. The new dashboard is enriched with fabric, Alcantara or wood inserts. In the center, the cantilever screen (up to 10 ") of the modern multimedia system. It has advanced and gestural voice commands and an internal SIM card. While with the mobile you can manage some features of the car from your smartphone, such as opening and closing the doors. Present the head-up display and, in the dashboard, the configurable 10 ”digital instrumentation: the dimensions of the virtual dials of speedometer and tachometer vary. For the versions with the double-clutch gearbox, the chrome-plated lever placed in the tunnel is to be operated with an index and thumb (similar to that of the latest Porsche and new Golf). The other novelty is the two-spoke steering wheel with scroll wheel buttons. In the name of practicality, in addition to the umbrellas inserted in the front doors, two pockets on the side of the front backrests for mobile phones. Moreover, the the sedan's boot increases by 10 liters, touching 600 in the five-seat configuration, against the 640 of the wagin (30 more).
WIDE FAN – Motors chapter: two "light" hybrids have the 1.0 turbo petrol with 110 HP or the 1.5 150 HP, combined with a small electric unit powered by a 48 V battery. The gearbox is the DSG double clutch robot with 7 gears (or the six-speed manual for more traditional versions). The 190 bhp 2.0 petrol engine with the 7-speed DSG transmission and four-wheel drive is also petrol-powered. There are also two rechargeable hybrids: 204 or 245 hp, with the 1.4 petrol (6-speed dual-clutch gearbox) combined with an electric motor. In diesel, the choice is between 2.0 with 116 hp, 150 or 200 horses (the latter also in combination with 4x4s). And again, the Skoda Octavia it is available in monovalent methane (the petrol tank is only 9 liters): it has a 150 bhp 1.5 and 7-speed robotic transmission or manual with one less ratio.

INSECURITY – Among the many security systems of the new one Skoda Octavia, the one that warns you of coming from behind a cyclist or another vehicle when you open the door. Furthermore, in emergency steering, the device helps to carry out the evasive maneuver. The new Skoda Octavia will be delivered in dealerships in May, with approximate prices of around 23,000 euros for the wagon (the first to arrive) and a thousand less for the sedan, to debut after a few months.
