The minimoto by Brent Walter derived from fenders of the Vollkswagen Beetle they are the latest in upcyling, and also one of the most imaginative. The idea is of a creative that more than a designer calls himself "maker", and exploits the iconic Curves of the Beetle Fenders to give shape to a new type of transport, which he called Volkspod: a pair of minimoto with a large headlight that makes them look like two cyclops, while the large handlebar and seat resemble a bicycle.
Under the fender painted in vintage tones of birch green and pastel blue (original colors of the Volkswagen Beetle bodywork) instead it hides a 79 cc engine for the green, 212cc version for the blue one.
In practice, Walter cut and welded i front and rear fenders of a Typ 1 to transform them into the scooter body by working the bodywork to house the headlights. Below, a simple tube frame "contains" the engine, also of Volkswagen brand.
The Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 is an icon since its first release in 1938. Born out of Hitler's desire to market "a car of the people" and established as a military vehicle during the Second World War – when despite its "chubby" appearance from proof of great mechanical and technical qualities – it has been for many years the world's best-selling car, as well as the longest-lived ever, produced continuously for sixty-five years, until 2003.
Since then it has been the subject of countless interpretations: from hybrid versions to those who turned it into a camper, up to the electric version produced by Volkswagen itself.
