Microsoft Surface Pro X, features, output and price

Presented during the event Microsoft on October 2nd, the new Surface Pro X he is ready to make his debut also in Italy. The last one 2 in 1 laptop computer from Microsoft, is already available in the United States and has been very talked about. In fact, it is the first Microsoft mobile device, after so many years, based on the ARM architecture: in fact it mounts a SoC SQ1 realized by Qualcomm on specific instructions from Microsoft. The operating system is therefore Windows 10 for ARM and not the classic Windows 10, which limits the number of compatible applications a bit.

This is a big challenge for Microsoft because, with absolutely valid hardware, there are plenty of doubts on the software side. But Microsoft ensures that most apps will run smoothly on Surface Pro X and with excellent performance. But the price of this device will not appeal to many. Here are the Surface Pro X features, the new 2 in 1 PC from the Redmond company.

Microsoft Surface Pro X: technical features

There data sheet of the Surface Pro X is significant. The SoC SQ1 is an evolution of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx octa-core, flanked by an Adreno 680 GPU, and has a maximum frequency of 3 GHz RAM is 8 or 16 GB, with LPDDR4x technology and 2.133 MHx frequency, while the storage is entrusted to a 128, 256 or 512 GB SSD. The display is 13 inches, with a resolution of 2.880×1.920 pixels (which translate into a density of 267 ppi). It is a PixelSense multitouch screen, with 3: 2 format and 450 nit brightness.

There are two cameras: at the front a 5 MP which records video up to 1080p and at the front a 10 MP with autofocus that supports 4K. On the Surface Pro X we find two USB-C 3.1 ports, a Surface Connect port for fast charging and a SIM slot. Connectivity is guaranteed by Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Bluetooth 5.0 and a Snapdragon X24 LTE modem. So no 5G. The total weight is only 774 grams, the dimensions are 287x208x7.3 mm.

Microsoft Surface Pro X: the operating system

The use of a ARM chip forced Microsoft to use the version of Windows 10 for this architecture, which is different from the classic one for x86 architecture. All the applications already compiled for this operating system run natively without problems, while the x86 ones come performed via an emulator, compatible only with 32-bit apps. This means that, at least initially, you will not be able to use 64-bit apps on the Surface Pro X.

Microsoft Surface Pro X: a 2 in 1 tablet

Surface strength has always been ergonomics. Also on the Pro X this feature it is confirmed, thanks to the classic back zipper and the keyboard cover that, in the Pro X with optional Signature keyboard, has the housing with recharge for the magnetic pen. Both the keyboard and the pen are paid separately. There Surface Slim Pen in this version it is not rounder but flat and wide. Like all 2-in-1s with keyboard covers, even the Surface Pro X requires light pressure on the keys, otherwise the keyboard flexes and typing is uncomfortable. After getting used to it, though, the user appreciates the convenience of having a 2 in 1 tablet with a very bright screen and excellent colors, which can also be used with the pen, and which can become a "almost laptop"if necessary.

Microsoft Surface Pro X: when it comes out and how much it costs

Surface Pro X is already on sale in the USA while the release date in Italy chosen by Microsoft for this device is the 19 November. However the Surface Pro X can already be purchased on the official Microsoft store. The prices, unfortunately, are not low: it starts from 1,169 euros for the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD, it goes up to 1,499 euros for the 8/256 version and it reaches 1,999 for 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of space on the SSD. There Surface Slim Pen instead costs 144.99 euros, as much as the Surface X Pro Keyboard. The package that includes the Signature keyboard and the Slim Pen costs 299.99 euros. Finally, the Arc mouse costs € 89.99.
