Ford has set up the AVAS system which will be used in the new electric vehicles. In Escape Hybrid is Explorer Hybrid of 2020 will be characterized by an artificial noise called O-29, reproduced when the vehicle travels up to 19 miles per hour. The producer calls it "melodious", designed to be identified as the sound of a car but not too annoying for the ears.
The noises for electric vehicles are operated both in reverse and forward producing a minimum sound intensity of 56 dB up to 75 dB for the moving car up to 20 km / h. Specific rules require that the timbre of the sound must consist of frequency intervals of one third of an octave and of medium-high frequencies in order to highlight in the listener the direction of origin of the sound itself and therefore of the vehicle.
For electric and hybrid cars already on the market, the AVAS system will be mandatory in 2021. Furthermore, with the entry into force of the obligation, manufacturers are forbidden to allow owners of these vehicles to offer functions to deactivate artificial sounds.
