Lamezia Terme – Seized arsenal, explosive devices, explosive material and cash. The execution operations, on the morning of November 12th, of the personal and real precautionary measure ordered by G.i.p. of the court of Lamezia, at the request of the Public Prosecutor, against Carmelo Furci, 48, did not end with the arrest of the alleged usurer. In the course of the searches, in fact, the soldiers of the group of the financial guard of Lamezia Terme have found a real and true "Santabarbara".

The details of the operation were illustrated by the public prosecutor, Salvatore Curcio and the provincial commander of Catanzaro, gen.b. Dario Solombrino, at the headquarters of the Lamezia finance guard group.

The investigations were carried out by the Guardia di Finanza group Lamezia Terme, led by the ten. with the. Clemente Crisci, from the operative nucleus (capt. Matteo Boarelli) and the mobile nucleus (Marshal Vito Margiotta), coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Giuseppe Falcone. The suspect appears to be a defendant in association with the Mafia in a trial by the Dda of Catanzaro, as it is considered affiliated with the "Greco" clan operating in Lamezia. The 48-year-old had already been arrested for the first time in 1997, by the finance guard, because he was held responsible for the crime of usury committed in competition with Sergio Greco and Ugo Roberto, now considered his chief clan; for those facts he was found guilty by the court of Lamezia and definitively condemned.

Seized arsenal for 167,000 euros

The military has identified two apartments in the availability of the suspect, even if formally not attributable to him, within which a real arsenal was found, consisting of 7 guns, 2 revolvers and 5 semiautomatic, all perfectly working and well oiled, ready to use. Of these, three with the serial number abraded and / or stamped, two, instead, turned out to be the result of theft and for two others investigations are underway to establish their origin. Ten weapon feeders (loaders) with 645 ammunition of various caliber were also found.

One of the apartments had also been used as a veritable deposit of explosive material, in defiance of every elementary safety measure: the yellow flames, in fact, found a handcrafted bomb of about 1kg, with a high damaging potential, 7 quintals of pyrotechnic devices of various categories, partly clandestine, as they lack the required labeling with regulatory descriptions and the authorization of the Ministry of the Interior.

The material was immediately removed as it was seriously dangerous for public safety and in particular for the inhabitants of that condominium. In fact, the possible triggering of materials would have caused serious damage to things and especially to people. Skillfully hidden in a cavity of a piece of furniture, Lametini financiers also found 167,000 euros in cash, subdivided into vacuum packs, probably the result of the crime of usury.

Finally, Furci was also found in possession of clothes supplied to the penitentiary police, on whose provenance investigations are underway. The 48-year-old, in addition to the already alleged crimes of usury and extortion, will have to answer for the illegal possession of common firearm weapons, including clandestine weapons, receiving and illicit possession of explosive and explosive materials. Ballistic guns will be used to carry out ballistic investigations to establish whether other crimes have been carried out with them.
