Italy exceeds Greece: it is the most risky debtor country in the euro area. The yields of the Athens bonds fell below those of Italy for the first time since 2008. The yield on Greece's 10-year bonds – the Financial Times reports – stood at 1.10%. The yield on Italian equivalent securities rose to 1.16%. "The returns of both countries, during the debt crisis, remain very low by historical standards, but the recovery of the Greek bond market was more spectacular."
The Italian economy, the Ft observes, "remains mired in slow growth. Although S&P estimates that Italian debt offers better guarantees than the Greek one, Italy has a negative outlook ".
