Among the many unknowns of the FCA-PSA merger could be a fixed point or rather a Fiat Punto. Yes, because while the announced marriage between the Italian-American group and the French one brings a series of operational problems, not just the overlap and reorganization of the 14 brands and the employment of the future over 400,000 employees, from another will also offer new opportunities to Italian brands, in particular to Lingotto.

Fiat, uncertain future for Panda and 500

To benefit from it could be its own Point, a model that in the past gave Fiat great satisfaction and could exploit the synergy between FCA and PSA to be reborn, perhaps already in an electrified version. What is certain is that, as confirmed by Mike Manley himself, the Turin brand will start a profound restructuring of the range to face the difficult period on the European market: this will result in the abandonment of the city cars, ergo, goodbye to 500 and Panda. A certainly complicated choice that could translate into a totally electric turnaround for the former, with the abandonment of the combustion engine versions to the advantage of the battery-powered model that is taking life at Mirafiori. What will be Panda instead? According to the CEO of FCA, reading between the lines of his presentation speech of quarterly data, even for the best seller of Fiat the days (or months, or years) would be counted. It will remain to be understood also here how, given that it is the most sold model in Italy.

FCA-PSA, Montezemolo: "Positive merger but will not affect Ferrari"

Manley announced a repositioning of Fiat, with an orientation towards the B segment. And here it comes back to the point: a rebirth or a future model that takes its forms back, could exploit the CMP platform (and its ECMP variant) already brilliantly shared by Peugeot 208 and Corsa. Internal competition would become even more ruthless but in this way the brand would be revitalized, taking advantage of a very advanced modular architecture suitable for hosting electric or hybrid engines.
