(post_content) => The new generation of Skoda Octavia it was officially presented as an absolute preview in Prague. The new Octavia, the fourth generation of the best-selling queen of the Czech brand as well as the best-selling Skoda model, makes some important evolutionary steps in several respects, becoming more spacious, renewing the design, modernizing the technological and mechanical equipment with the launch of new electrified engines.

Length increased by 2 cm

The Skoda Octavia, built on the most recent version of the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform, does not envisage radical revolutions, both in terms of the sedan version and the familiar wagon. The external appearance benefits from the renewed front thanks to a larger, more pronounced and lower placed grille. The bonnet has become more muscular instead. In the profile of the car Skoda has retouched the side skirts and has made the silhouette more slender and streamlined thanks to the more inclined rear window. On the rear, the new thin and horizontal lights, and no longer vertical, stand out. In terms of size, the Skoda Octavia 2020 sedan and wagon has grown by 2 cm compared to before, reaching a length of 4.69 meters. The width is 1.83 meters (1.5 cm more), while the wheelbase remained unchanged at 2.68 meters.

Renovated interior and dashboard on several levels

The renewal of the Skoda Octavia has concerned in an important way the interiors that have been updated with quality materials and more refined finishes. The novelty that immediately catches the eye is the new multi-level dashboard embellished with fabric, Alcantara or wood inserts. In the central position there is the "suspended" touch screen, measuring up to 10 inches, of the infotainment system that integrates the internal SIM card and advanced voice and gesture commands. Another new feature is the debut of the head-up display, which takes shape above the 10-inch digital instrument panel with adjustable dial dimensions. The new Octavia also allows you to open and close ports remotely via the app on your smartphone.

New steering wheel, always practical, more space in the trunk

On the car the new two-spoke steering wheel with sliding wheel controls stands out, while on the versions with automatic transmission there is a new chromed lever positioned in the tunnel that is operated with the index and thumb. On the new Octavia the great qualities of practicality do not fail, starting from some solutions present in the passenger compartment such as the umbrellas set in the front doors and the small side pockets on the backs of the front seats where mobile phones can be stored. The spaciousness of the boot with 10 liters more on the sedan is also growing, thus reaching 600 liters of minimum load capacity, and 30 more on the wagon which reaches 640 liters.

Four electrified engines

There are also several innovations regarding the engines with the new Skoda Octavia which brings to the debut two hybrid "light" options and two plug-in hybrids that join the petrol, diesel and methane propulsion systems. The two mild-hybrid engines they include an electric unit with a 48 V battery which can be installed alongside either the 1.0 turbo gasoline of 110 bhp or the 1.5 bhp petrol 150 bhp. On both hybrid engines, Skoda offers the 7-speed double-clutch DSG robotised gearbox (also in combination with the 2.0 hp 190 petrol and all-wheel drive), while the 6-speed manual gearbox is also available on the versions with traditional engines.

As for the engines plug-in hybrids these combine the electric motor with the 204 or 245 hp 1.4 petrol engine, combined with the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The diesel range is instead composed of the 2.0-liter available in three power levels: 116, 150 and 200 hp, with the latter also available with all-wheel drive. To complete the offer there is the Skoda Octavia with CNG with the 1.5 150 bhp, which can be combined with the 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed robot.

Increased security

The safety equipment of the Skoda Octavia also evolves, with the new generation proposing the warning system that monitors the arrival from behind of a cyclist or another vehicle when it opens the door. A further aid instead in emergency steering comes from the system that helps to carry out the evasive maneuver.

Launch in May

The Skoda Octavia 2020 will arrive in dealerships in May next year, with prices that, pending disclosure, should start at around 22,000 euros for the sedan and 23,000 euros for the wagon.
