A new name that brings with it, to put it in the words of CEO Paolo Grossi, "a radical and long-term change". Because Syndial, the environmental company of Eni founded in 2003 with the renaming of the then Enichem, after the transfer of its production activities to Versalis, to substantially manage the demolition of the buildings and the reclamation of the sites "inherited" from industrial failures and from the Enimont, from today becomes Eni Rewind and focuses, in Italy and abroad, beyond the boundaries of the group, where its business has so far been concentrated: from the reclamation of all Eni's plants in Italy (from upstream to refining, to service stations) to disposal and recovery of industrial waste, up to the last step, the transformation of the organic fraction of urban waste (the so-called "Forsu") into bio oil and water through the proprietary Eni Waste to Fuel technology.
Ad Grossi: develop important technologies and skills
"The scope of our activities has progressively expanded over the years – explains the number one Grossi al Sole 24 Ore – and has led us to develop very important technologies and skills, as well as extremely significant relationships with the territory, indispensable to carry forward in the time, in close collaboration, with local administrations and communities, industrial recovery projects that are also very complex ». An evident growth, therefore, certified in the first place by the numbers since the company currently manages environmental costs for the group for over 800 million euros a year, has 200 active sites and counts on the direct work of over a thousand people.
«It is in this context – the CEO adds – that we have decided to change the company name to Eni Rewind, first of all recovering the name of the group in order to facilitate identification with Eni and send a strong signal to the outside, but also to to employees and stakeholders. With the aim of marking here also a change of pace compared to the past and the idea that the former activity of the former Syndial represented something to hide and not to value. Today, instead, Eni wants to put its face to us as it has always done since we are among the few oil & gas companies that have not outsourced the reclamation of our sites ".
The company changes its name and becomes Eni Rewind
The new name then incorporates a term borrowed from English which is both an acronym but also an effective synthesis of the company philosophy: remediation & waste into devolopment, ie reclamation and waste management (and water) as a development opportunity. «The word“ rewind ”which in Italian means rewinding time – explains Grossi -, contains first of all our past, which has evolved over time and since solving a problem it has become an opportunity for development and the ability to return a“ second life ” to the reclaimed sites. However, the change of name also refers to the future of our company, which is also represented by the most recent businesses in an overall structure perfectly aligned with Eni's new mission in terms of environmental sustainability and the circular economy ".
A combined, therefore, made by a solid expertise, cutting-edge technologies and great capacity for dialogue and comparison with the territories, which Eni Rewind now wants to further add value both in Italy and abroad, where Grossi's company is landed, since last year, to make its skills and technologies available to Eni's foreign subsidiaries. "In Iraq – he says – we are developing plant engineering and water treatment project management with upstream colleagues, including some aimed at water purification for the city of Basra. And we are doing the same in Nigeria where we are carrying out projects for water treatment and reclamation activities ".
