ROME – Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 without Russia. It is a non-remote hypothesis. The Wada, the world anti-doping agency, has in fact made it known that the commission for the control of the conformity (Crc) has recommended to the Executive of the same Wada, that will meet in Paris next 9 December, to suspend again the Rusada. A recommendation that, if collected, would entail severe sanctions for Russia, including exclusion from the next Olympic Games. The indications provided by the CRC arise from the now famous data of the Moscow laboratory, delivered last January by Russia and which were among the conditions imposed in September 2018 to put an end to the suspension that had lasted for three years, following the scandal of Sochi. On that data and on the alleged inconsistencies, Wada opened a proceeding, believing that there had been manipulations. And the recommendation given by the commission suggests that the answers coming from Moscow – where they have always denied any alteration – were not enough to dispel the doubts raised.
The consequences could be disastrous: already at the Pyeongchang Winter Games in 2018 Russia was excluded from the IOC but allowed 168 athletes to compete as "Olympic athletes from Russia".
Among other things, the Wada commission's recommendation comes just a few days after the suspension of the IAAF Athletics Integrity Unit by Dmitry Shlyakhtin and Alexander Parkin, respectively president and executive director of the Russian Athletics Federation (Rusaf). Both, as well as other Moscow sports executives, are accused of obstructing an investigation into Danil Lysenko, a silver medalist at the 2017 World Cup in London and in turn disqualified a year ago for not being available for anti-doping controls in three occasions. Shlyakhtin and Parkin, according to Aiu, allegedly falsified or would be complicit in falsifying some documents. In this regard, Rusaf has appointed Yulia Tarasenko as interim president.
