Post-race Mattia Binotto's words have shaken, and will shake up, the Ferrari world in the next few hours, without any doubt. The position taken by the Maranello team principal at the end of the 2019 Brazilian F1 Grand Prix was clear, inevitable and extremely tough. How much combined by Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc (click here for the video of the incident) has no excuse, it is not admissible at these levels and, above all, opens really complicated scenarios for the future.
The first disagreements were seen in Monza, so in Singapore the first "blowout" of the Monegasque was experienced, before what happened in Sochi and at other times in this championship finale. Ever since the former Alfa Romeo Sauber started to hit pole positions and outstanding results, as was obvious, the two pilots as companions have become rivals and today, on Reta Oposta of Interlagos have become the most classic "Two roosters in the chicken coop".
A minimal contact, of course, but which led to a double bloody retreat. Precious points evaporated, another chance thrown to the winds and, above all, a climate inside the stable all to be rebuilt. In the post-race, obviously, the two pilots preferred to tone down and get the idea of the "nothing happened", but Mattia Binotto is not exactly of the same opinion. The number one of the Prancing Horse is right, but it also has faults.
Many Ferrari fans in recent years have smiled seeing Valtteri Bottas proceed as a squire for Lewis Hamilton, and then got angry seeing how Brackley's stable manage positions and relationships between the two drivers in the race. Not very sporty? Disreputable? Everyone sees it as he wishes, meanwhile the Silver Arrows have dominated for six years also for this reason, and they care little about the label.
At Ferrari, however, there is always the feeling that these aspects are treated too much with pincers, almost with psychological subjection. A kind of "We are different". Certainly commendable, but after what we saw today in San Paolo, counter-moves are urgent. Impositions from above, clear orders, to try to manage two elements that, as is normal, do and will do everything to excel.
Mattia Binotto concluded by saying that he dreams of an open battle between the two in a 2020 title. A wish that all the fans of the Rossa cannot but have, but in a similar event, how can you manage two similar characters? Let's say that the team principal will have a really complicated job in the future and that, surely, he will deserve every euro of his salary.
