California bans carmakers who have allied themselves with US president Donald Trump and will stop buying vehicles manufactured by General Motors, Toyota, Fiat Chrysler and other groups that have sided with the White House in the battle to deprive it of its autonomy on the regulation of polluting emissions from cars.

Between 2016 and 2018, California purchased $ 58.6 million of General Motors models, 55.8 million of Fiat Chryslers, 10.6 million from Toyota and 9 million from Nissan. Last month, GM, Toyota, Fca and other members of the Global Automakers Trade Association supported Trump Administration's attempt to prevent California from setting its own emissions standards, which are much more stringent than those desired by the White House.

Starting in January, California will purchase vehicles produced exclusively by manufacturers who recognize its authority on the issue. Open doors, therefore, for Ford, Honda, BMW and Volkswagen, which in July signed an agreement with the State in which they are committed to respecting the standards. The agreement ended up being targeted by the Justice Department, which opened an antitrust investigation.

Between 2016 and 2018, California purchased $ 69.2 million of Ford vehicles, just $ 565,000 of Honda models and no German cars.

California's emissions regulations have been adopted by 13 other states. California, leading some twenty states, decided to challenge the Trump administration's decisions in court.
