The challenge between Bezos and Gates reflects the clash between Amazon and Microsoft for the Pentagon's $ 10 billion maxi contract. The American Ministry of Defense has surprisingly awarded the maxi order to Microsoft, in what was a real slap to the Bezos company. But the online sales giant does not intend to suffer passively and announces an appeal against a "political-influenced" decision.
Amazon seemed the natural winner of the maxi contract until Donald Trump threw his eye on the assignment process, denouncing the complaints of some companies. From that moment it immediately became clear that for Amazon a victory would not have been granted. And so it was: the contract went to Microsoft and Amazon remained with a handful of flies in hand. Many have seen in the choice of the Pentagon the hand of the president, whose dislike of Bezos and the Washington Post, which he owns, is known.
The loss of the contract, as well as a quarterly report that did not convince showing a jump in costs to meet the need for deliveries in 24 hours, weighed on Amazon stocks on Wall Street, de facto impoverishing an already poorer Bezos due to a multimillionaire divorce from MacKenzie Bezos, now the fourth richest woman in the world. The ranking of billionaires confirms the rise of Arnault, the patron of LVMH, the luxury giant that is worth 200 billion euros and that aims at Tiffany, Audrey Hepburn's favorite jewelers. By getting their hands on Tiffany Arnault it would strengthen in the United States and be able to further diversify its empire by increasing exposure to jewelery, one of the fastest growing sectors in the luxury market. With its 300 stores worldwide, Tiffany is one of the largest jewelers in the world along with Cartier and Bulgari, which is part of the Arnault empire.
