In the US a vegan has proposed a class action against Burger King to clearly indicate that its Impossible Whopper (made with fake meat) is cooked in the same grills as traditional burgers

A vegan customer sued a Burger King after discovering that the burgers of fake meat (a meatball that looks like meat but is made with proteins of vegetable origin) of the Impossible Whopper sandwiches are cooked on same grids of traditional meat burgers.

Phillip Williams, this is the name of the accuser, has filed the lawsuit in Florida proposing one class action on behalf of the unhappy vegans for the choice of Burger King, citing the numerous complaints on the subject of contamination that appeared on social media.

Williams, who like many people who follow a vegan or vegetarian diet does not eat foods that came into contact with products of animal origin, he said he ordered a Unable to Whopper in Atlanta in August, the month in which the fast food chain launched the product by advertising it as 100% Whopper, 0% meat (the Whopper is the traditional Burger King burger).

Only after he discovered that the burger made of vegetable protein it had been cooked in the grill normally used for hamburgers. If he had known, he explains, he would not have ordered the sandwich by paying a set price premium for a burger impregnated with meat juices and fats. Williams' request is that be clearly indicated that the Impossible Whopper are not suitable for vegans and vegetarians precisely because of their cooking – they also contain mayonnaise, but this is explicitly indicated.

Burger King, contacted by the US media, declined to comment. On his website, in the page dedicated to Impossible Whopper, a note simply states that "for guests looking for an option without meat, it is available on request a preparation that does not use the grid". Preparation which, as stated by Impossible Foods (the company that produces burger veg), should be made in the microwave.

Also in Italy, where the counterpart has just been launched Rebel Whopper (which we tasted), on the social networks there were numerous complaints to the news that the vegetable burgers are cooked with grills and tools used for those of meat. But Burger King Italia was keen to point out that the new sandwiches are not necessarily aimed at vegans and vegetarians, as for omnivorous people who are looking for aalternative to meat.
