Japan is "famous" all over the world also because of its culture of "extreme work". Well, Microsoft has tried to reverse the course, realizing an initiative that foresees a 4-day work week. The test was conducted right in the Land of the Rising Sun and gave unexpected results.

In fact, according to reports by the Washington Post, people have managed to increase their productivity by 40%. How? Sales per employee increased by just 40% compared to the same month of the previous year. In particular, the test was held during the month of August 2019 and guaranteed five free Fridays to some Microsoft employees.

94% of employees said they were satisfied with the initiative, the number of pages printed in the office decreased by 59% and electricity consumption dropped by 23%. The test conducted by the Redmond company was designed to understand how the number of working days can affect the employee performance.

However, Microsoft is not the only one to have tested the 4-day work week. In fact, numerous companies from all over the world are trying to figure out if it is a viable way. Among these we find the American hamburger chain Shake Shack.
