FC Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde believes that the "clasico" against Real Madrid will be played in Barcelona at the scheduled date of October 26, despite the violence in Catalonia.
"There are still nine days left for the match, it is clear that this week is a bit strange in Barcelona, but there is still time, we have confidence in ourselves, trust in ours, we think we can play this match in our stadium" said the Barcelona technician in a press conference.
The riots that followed independence demonstrations in recent days in Barcelona have led the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to propose that the first "clasico" of the season be played in Madrid and not in Barcelona as originally planned, and to play Camp Nou during the second half of the season.
"It is true that there were proposals to change the order (of the matches), to play first Bernabeu, which did not convince us," said Valverde, recalling that it would have ensued three trips to "Blaugranas" Eibar Saturday in the league, Prague Tuesday in the Champions League then Madrid the following Saturday.
"We should travel again, but it's not just for that, it's also a matter of respect for the calendar and the fans," said Valverde.
Barca and Real have in principle refused to reverse the calendar of the "clasico". Another possibility mentioned in the Spanish press would be to postpone the meeting.
Playing the match on schedule "is a chance to demonstrate a lot of things: that this match can take place perfectly, that we respect the opponent, that by following basic rules of good citizenship, everything can work", insisted Ernesto Valverde, obviously tired of questions about the game against Real.
