Big traffic problems were reported on the A54 Gosselies-Charleroi, at the junction with the R9 in Charleroi, this Monday, October 7th. And for good reason, a serious accident occurred on the R9 in the interchange, in the direction Nivelles-Charleroi, around 12:30.
Shortly before the exit Charleroi-Nord, the driver lost control of her vehicle, for a reason still undetermined. She then bit on the grassy right side of the road, then hit the bridge, at the exit that leads to the Marsupilami to finish reprojected on the A54, before stopping a few tens of meters away. Luckily for both women, the shock occurred on the side of the car.
The accident was of a rare violence: attests the state of the car, or rather, what is left of it.
The driver and her passenger were trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters Jumet then intervened for the extrication: they proceeded to the removal of the roof of the car to be able to leave the two victims, which were extracted by the trunk of the vehicle.
Seriously injured
Both women were cared for by the medical teams on site and transferred to hospital. Both were seriously injured.
For more than an hour, two of the three traffic lanes were closed, causing some six kilometers of traffic jam.
