Washington Mystics – with two Belgians in its ranks, Emma Meesseman (22 pts) especially in centerpiece and Kim Mestdagh – won his first WNBA title by beating a third time in five Connecticut Sun games 89-78 (halftime: 42-43) Thursday at Washington's Entertainment and Sports Arena in front of 4,200 spectators.

At 26, and for her sixth season in the North American Professional Basketball Championship, Emma Meesseman became WNBA Champion after the fifth and final round of the final won by the franchise that drafted her in April 2013. The victory of the Mystics on Thursday sealed by 3 wins to 2 the series in the final against Connecticut Sun.

The game will have been tight for most of the time. Connecticut Sun took a maximum of 9 points in the 3rd quarter at 44-53, but at the instigation of Emma Meesseman (11 points in the 3rd quarter), the Mystics rallied little by little (62-64 at half an hour). The players of Mike Thibault managed to free themselves over the minutes allowing Washington to pass in front of his opponent. Also with Elena Delle Donne (21 pts, 9 rebounds), the MVP (best player) of the regular phase, the Mystics were looking for the first title in their history.

Meesseman elected MVP of the final

Emma Meesseman will finish with a big line of stats still: 22 points (8/11 to 2pts, 1/3 to 3pts, 3/5 LF, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 interception (for 4 fouls and a loss of ball) in 26 minutes. She is MVP, Most Value Player, best player in the championship final.

The Flemish indoor has been preponderant during the playoffs raising its level of play during the finals it will finish with 18 points of average for 5 rebounds.

Emma Meesseman had been absent last summer (because of the World Cup with the Belgian Cats) for the first Washington final, lost to Seattle. His coach, Mike Thibault had then declared that she was the missing piece in his puzzle.

"I'm not the missing piece of the puzzle, I'm just a player who helped his team win the championship"said Emma Meesseman receiving her MVP trophy for the final. "It's my family now and I want to share it with them, I love them, the only thing that mattered was this title of champion".

The other Belgian Cats of the Mystics, Kim Mestdagh is not up for grabs
