Jean-Baptiste Aldigé, chairman of the executive board of Biarritz Olympique, made the announcement Wednesday on his Twitter account. The third-row English international center Steffon Armitage (34), free since June, has committed for two seasons with the Basque club.
Passed by the Saracens and the London Irish, Armitage was illustrated in France during his stay in Toulon (2011-2016). Real poison in the rucks, he had been one of the great craftsmen of the Var epic consecrated by three European Cups and a title of champion of France. For the past three seasons, he has been part of the Paloise Section, which did not extend his contract.
Condemned suspended for sexual abuse in September
Last September, the third-line was sentenced in France to six months in prison suspended for sexual assault on a young woman at a party watered. Armitage (5 selections) had acknowledged the facts in a hearing before conviction by guilty plea (CRPC) to plead guilty to the Criminal Court of Pau. The latter had been sentenced to six months suspended sentence and 5,000 euros in damages.
