Following the truck accident that occurred this Wednesday on the E42-E19 / A7 motorway near Nimy-Maisières, several operations must still be carried out on the road. The motorway will therefore be closed from Sunday, October 13 at 9 pm to Monday, October 14 at 6 am between the interchange No. 22 "Obourg" and the interchange 24 "Mons" towards France. A diversion will be put in place via the N552 and the interchange n ° 25 "Saint-Ghislain". To France, the access n ° 23 and 23bis "Nimy", as well as the area of ​​Bois du Gard will also be closed.

This closure will firstly clean up the last residues of products dumped following the accident, and secondly repair the damage caused during the accident at the level of police crossings. "The analyzes carried out demonstrate that the coating placed in the framework of the rehabilitation of the road between Obourg and Jemappes will not have to be repaired"explains Sofico.

As a reminder, a tanker was lying on the E19 Wednesday around 1:30 am. The liquid in the tank, highly flammable and toxic, sank on the roadway. The highway was closed in both directions, causing major traffic problems. And for good reason: part of the contents of the tank of the truck with a capacity of 20,000 to 24,000 liters, sank on the road. The product, whose texture can be likened to resin in solution, similar to glue, was potentially toxic and highly flammable.

Immediately alerted, the emergency services arrived at the scene within minutes of the accident. The firefighters then covered the escaped product with foam, which had the effect of stopping the evaporation and propagation of the product. The sewer header was closed.

The contents of the damaged tank had to be transferred to another tank truck. The pumping operation was carried out with very specific equipment, adapted to this type of product, from specialized firefighters in the Val de Sambre area, based in Solvay. A truck-crane was then able to proceed with the recovery of the overturned truck. The cleaning of the water and the dirty sludge accumulated on the highway at the accident site took many hours and continued for part of the night.

Finally, the road was reopened Thursday at 4 o'clock in the morning.
