Police officers in Thetford Mines surprised a man carrying prohibited guns in a gym bag, one of which was loaded this week.

Municipal security officers were monitoring a narcotics outlet on 9th Street North on Wednesday when Dale Tétreault, 29, a well-known police officer, walked out.

They arrested him and found in his bag a small arsenal: three sawed hunting weapons, one of which was loaded, a total of 17 12-caliber cartridges and even a "strangler", the police said.

During a subsequent search at the point of sale, the officers seized methamphetamine-like tablets and GHB-like fluid. These substances have been assigned to Health Canada laboratories to confirm their exact nature.

According to Thetford Mines police, Dale Tétreault appeared in the Thetford Mines Courthouse on Thursday on a charge of possession of a firearm during a ban. He was then transported to the Quebec Detention Center where he remains detained.

At the time of his arrest, the accused was subject to four probation orders in addition to two firearms prohibition orders. In March and April 2017, he was convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for drug trafficking offenses.

Tetreault must return to court on October 16 for further proceedings. Additional firearms and non-compliance charges may be added to his file.
