The Swiss team remains in control of its European destiny. She narrowly won 2-0 in Geneva against Ireland and will qualify for Euro 2020 if she beats Georgia and Gibraltar.
Since the story of this group D seems to be stitched white and the story condemns the best team in the pool (and far) to suffer to the end, this Tuesday night has probably been good for the selection of Vladimir Petkovic. Who has scratched the only possible result for her and without taking a goal which is more, in an end of meeting again made anxiogenous by some forgetting Helvetic and some ripples disarticulated Irish. Rushes made possible by a collective Swiss retreat incompatible with the claims of grandeur displayed.
Switzerland should have spared such a final by taking his ease. However, she was not able to do so, and this time, she can not blame the goalkeeper Darren Randolph who, having folded on a shot well placed Haris Seferovic in the 16th, has almost no had to stop to realize … But, to mark, still it is necessary to frame, exercise in which failed all Lichtsteiner (29th), Seferovic (44th) and Schar (head on the pole in the 63rd).
Screaming technical waste
In fact, Seferovic was the closest to doing it, again, on a header that Randolph slammed into a corner. The center-forward of Benfica was one of the most prominent Swiss, scoring (finally) his first goal in this sluggish campaign, his eighteenth in selection. Lucernois sense of play and sacrifice greatly relieved an offensive animation that lost big when Admir Mehmedi was injured and left the field at the 28th already.
It is necessary however to note the beautiful entry in matter of Edimilson Fernandes, which brought the autogoal of Duffy on the 2-0 to the 93rd (!), But which however did not have the distance, decreasing of intensity in parallel to the whole team. A team whose general technical waste is currently restricting the making of big drunken nights. Ball-to-foot mistakes symbolized by an embellished Breel Embeller of falsity.
But also valuable, thanks to his athletic skills that allowed him to perforate the Irish defense or to practice a pressing often paying. It is also the MOnchengladbach striker who got a penalty (Seamus Coleman's hand) that … failed Rodriguez, upset by Randolph and the post in the 77th.
Nothing alarming, but …
Unable to push the point, the Swiss continued to be scared, even in numerical superiority since Coleman, on the action of the penalty, received a (very severe) second warning.
In the emergency that was his, the national team got what she needed to get, no more, no less. A satisfaction then, on the eve of two matches she will approach as a big favorite while Ireland and Denmark will tear each other in Dublin. The questions that this narrow and rough success raise remain however and Vladimir Petkovic will have to provide answers.
Nothing alarming yet, the periods of stammering transition being recurrent for a collective. But threatening enough to look at the case with the utmost seriousness.
