The mayor of Donges, Francois Cheneau, was sentenced to 250 euros fine and an awareness training. In April, he was arrested while driving his car while his license was suspended for speeding for eight years.
It was during a traffic stop in April, in Saint-Nazaire, that the police realized that the driver's license had been canceled eight years ago because of a loss of speeding points on docks in Paris.
Francois Cheneau acknowledges having been "negligent" and not taking the time to complete a points recovery course. The mayor says he registered to re-pass the permit.
