BRUSSELS – The European summit adopted the conclusions on the climate: the spokesman of the president of the European Council Charles Michel made it known on twitter. The leaders' meeting ended late at night and will resume this morning. The EU leaders have agreed on the "important goal" of achieving the Union's climate neutrality by 2050. The president of the European Council Charles Michel has made it known."We have had intense climate discussions to arrive at climate neutrality by 2050. We all share the same attachment to this goal, one member state Poland has decided not to commit today and said it will do so in June next year ". German Chancellor Angela Merkel told the press conference. "I am quite satisfied, there has not been a division of Europe, there is only one Member State that needs some time to implement this policy, but we have a good prospect of being successful".
"Congratulations to you, Michel, for this first successful Council on your first day. There was an intense debate on the Green deal and we will become a neutral continent from 2050, it was a success and the leaders supported it" . European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at the press conference. "We are ready, we want to be a model and lead the way", he added, speaking of a "very lively and rich debate" among the leaders, on the Green Deal."We have seen great support from the Member States and I understand that Poland needs to look more carefully at our proposal for a fair transition fund that is under the umbrella of the European investment fund and in the coming months there will be more details in the roadmap, "said Von der Leyen. "Poland needs more time to be able to examine the details but this does not change the timing of the commission".
