A banner commemorating a sold-out series of singer Taylor Swift at the Staples Center will now be hidden during the Los Angeles Kings games.
The reason? Several superstitious supporters have pointed out that since the posting of the said painting, after 13 full shows of the artist in 2015, the team did not qualify for the playoffs just once.
This scarcity was marked by the conclusion of the 2018-2019 campaign, during which the Kings presented the worst record of the Western Association, 31-42-9.
By the way, the banner was hidden for the first time on Saturday night, and the crowd's favorites beat the Nashville Predators 7-4.
"Chemistry with our fans is our # 1 priority and we are committed to them. They have made it clear that the banner should not be part of the match experience, "said Michael Altieri, vice president and director of marketing, communications and content, in the Los Angeles Times.
"We do not see any problem in covering it up during our matches and we are actually seeing an opportunity to show our fans that we are hearing them."
The Kings are not the only organization that has taken this initiative. The Clippers already cover the Swift banner, as well as the Lakers championships and all their jerseys removed during home games. They display oversized portraits of their players in this area of the amphitheater since 2013.
According to the newspaper, the Lakers do not currently intend to cover the banner, but they would like to slow down their bad sequence: they have not won a playoff series for seven years and have the worst win rate of the last six seasons .
For their part, the Kings were sixth in the Pacific section on Monday morning with a 2-3-0 record and were four points behind their Anaheim rivals, the Ducks.
