Airlines Southwest Airlines and American Airlines reported data on losses due to the ban on the use of Boeing 737 Max, the aircraft model involved in two serious accidents in Indonesia and Ethiopia – which occurred in October 2018 and March 2019, respectively and that caused the death of 346 people – on whose safety large doubts had then emerged. The use of the Boeing 737 Max was suspended in March and the companies also expect the cost to increase in the coming months.

Southwest Airlines owns 31 Boeing 737 Max, more than any other airline, and said it gave us 435 million dollars (390 million euros) until September, but the figure is set to rise by the year; American Airlines owns 24 aircraft of the model and, according to forecasts, will lose 540 million dollars (585 million euros) throughout the year; in addition, in the third quarter of 2019 it had to cancel 9,500 flights.
