New York (AWP / AFP) – Boeing's commercial aircraft deliveries dropped sharply in the third quarter, according to a statement released Tuesday by the US giant, which continues to be affected by the 737 MAX crisis.

The aircraft manufacturer delivered 63 commercial aircraft between early July and late September against 190 at the same time last year, a decline of nearly 70%.

These figures are a new indicator of the financial and strategic impact of the 737 MAX crisis, Boeing's flagship aircraft, grounded since last March after two deadly crashes that claimed 346 lives.

Only five 737 were delivered in the third quarter, compared to 138 last year at the same time.

Quarterly deliveries of commercial aircraft are scrutinized by the stock market players as they represent an indicator of profitability. Analysts anticipate a sharp decline in Boeing's profits in 2019 after the fall in sales of the MAX.

On Wall Street, the Boeing title dropped 1.50% around 16H00 GMT.

The immobilization of the MAX has led Boeing to reduce the number of models produced and to store hundreds of new aircraft that can not be delivered until they have been approved by the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) for approval. a return to service.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the return of the plane in the sky could be pushed back further because of disagreements between US and European regulators on the changes proposed by Boeing.
