"Raymond is very tired since the last Tour de France", explained to AFP, his wife Gisèle Poulidor, without giving further details on his state of health.

The former champion, born in Masbaraud-Mérignat, lives about thirty kilometers away, in Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, where he was hospitalized on Tuesday. The runner, whose popularity is exceptional, finished eight times on the podium of the Tour de France (1962, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1969, 1972, 1974, 1976) and won the Tour of Spain (1964) as well as Milan-San Remo (1961) and the Walloon Arrow (1963).
