Grant played for 13 seasons in the NHL, winning a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1968. With the Canadiens, Grant only played in 23 games over two seasons, between 1965 and 1968, scoring three goals and four assists. He also played in Minnesota, Detroit and Los Angeles, finishing his career with a total of 263 goals in 736 games. In six seasons with the Minnesota North Stars between 1968 and 1974, Grant has amassed 176 goals and 353 points in 463 games, including three seasons with 30 goals and two 29 goals. In his first season with the North Stars in 1968-69, he was named NHL Rookie of the Year after scoring 34 goals and 65 points in 75 games. In the 1970-1971 playoffs, Grant scored 10 points in 12 games, including seven (4-3) in six games in the semifinal series against the Canadiens. The Habs had eliminated the North Stars in six games, making their way to a triumph in the Stanley Cup final against the Chicago Black Hawks. Despite his offensive stats, the North Stars traded Grant to the Red Wings on August 27, 1974 in return for Henry Boucha, a center player from Minnesota. In the 1974-75 season, while playing on the same line as young center Marcel Dionne, Grant had the best season of his career with 50 goals and 87 points in 80 games. Grant was admitted to the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 1985. In a tweet that was released before Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Canadiens' organization was saddened by Grant's death.
