Volkswagen: the Transporter becomes technological
The Volkswagen Transporter, the T series, is 70 years old. Derived from the Beetle, the first Transporter was nicknamed Bulli, probably from the initials of buses and lieferwagen (van), but it is also true that bullig in German means robust; from here the long history of about 12 million specimens and many models in the most varied uses starts. The camperized version follows, right from the first T1 model, all the evolution of the Transporter series and represents a true lifestyle. Now, like a software upgrade, we have come to the 6.1 generation. It is not just a restyling, but also an important increase in the ADAS functions (different optional), the driving assistance electronics.
(…) To test the new California 6.1 I flew to Canada: two days and almost 700 km traveled through the enchanting landscapes of Nova Scotia. The available California Ocean is a 4Motion (ie: 4 × 4) with DSG gearbox. Thanks to the 10 thousand kilometers traveled in August with the previous series T6, I had taken the lead with driver assistance systems. With well over a million driving kilometers and a 35-year driving license, there is some instinctive resistance to automation systems, but once you are confident, it must be said, it is difficult to go back. Some examples of ADAS. The acc: once the speed has been set, it keeps the distance with the vehicles ahead. Lane Assist helps in maintaining the lane. Crosswind Assist oversees, over 80 km / h, the trajectory in case of gusts of wind. Park Assist facilitates parking. Trailer Assist helps reversing with the truck.
