MLB: Nationals overthrow Dodgers 7-3 and advance to championship series

Howie Kendrick knocked out a grand slam after a withdrawal early in the 10th inning to propel the Washington Nationals to a 7-3 win in the decisive game of their division series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.

Kenrick sent a shot from reliever Joe Kelly to 410 feet at center field, allowing the Nats to take a four-point lead – their first of the game, as they trailed 3-0.

To tie the score in the eighth inning, the Nats have benefited from solo circuits Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto at the expense of veteran southpaw Clayton Kershaw, who came in succession to the runner Walker Buehler.

They will face for a place in the World Series the St. Louis Cardinals, who defeated the Atlanta Braves 13-1 earlier in the day.

This is the second presence of the Championship Series franchise after the 1981 edition of the Montreal Expos.
