In recent days, we have talked a lot about the new 2020 malus, which is expected on January 1st. It's now official. MEPs voted on Thursday to tighten taxes on the purchase of a new vehicle. Next year, this new scale of malus will start from 110 g / km of CO2 (against 117 g / km currently). It will then add 50 euros to the purchase price. At the bottom of the grid, the "maxi-malus" is now 12,500 euros and affects all vehicles whose CO2 emissions are greater than 172 g / km.
According to projections * made by the statistical research firm AAA Data, the penalty "version 2020" would affect 54% of new cars, against "only" 37% this year.

"A proper balance" …
"This hardening has been negotiated for a long time among all the manufacturers, I think we reached a balance suitable for everyone," said the general rapporteur Joel Giraud (LREM).
For its part, Elisabeth Borne, the minister of ecological transition and solidarity, has deemed this penalty "virtuous and protective for our fellow citizens". This allows "to give signals at the time of purchase, because some manufacturers guide with much advertising to consumers to vehicles that emit a lot of CO2."
Opposition did not weigh
The device was adopted despite the opposition of several deputies LR denouncing a "punitive ecology". Marie-Christine Dalloz, elected Jura, explains that "many citizens have no other choice: we are not in Paris, we do not have the metro".
For the chairman of the Finance Committee Eric Woerth (LR), a penalty that will "concern a large majority of vehicles" no longer makes sense, "the signal reaches its limits."
