AUTOMOBILE – The Japanese group JTEKT Corporation proceeded, Wednesday at Tanger Automotive City, the inauguration of its new site of production of management systems, an investment of 220 million dirhams.
Inaugurated in the presence, in particular, of the Wali of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, Mohamed Mhidia, of the governor of the province of Fahs-Anjra, Abdelkhalek Marzouki, of the Japanese ambassador to Morocco, Takuji Hanatani, as well as of several persons in charge and professionals of the automotive industry, this factory covers an area of 11,300 square meters and is located within the Tanger Med industrial platform.
On this occasion, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy, in charge of Investment, Othman El Ferdaous, said that the launch of the work of this factory of JTEKT group has allowed the creation of 90 jobs in the automotive sector and spare parts in Morocco.
"This factory, according to the Japanese design, is not only dedicated to the manufacture of auto parts, but also a school for Moroccan labor, that Japanese investors consider very competent and in line with technological evolution El Ferdaous said.
It is also a culture of quality brought back by the JTEKT Corporation production site, he continued, noting that the parts produced by the plant are of high technology and will allow the automotive sector to be resilient. vis-à-vis the big shocks he could face.
JTEKT Corporation Executive Director Hirofumi Matsuoka said the new plant in Tangier is JTEKT's first industrial site on the African continent, signaling the group's ambition to expand further to to become a leader in Africa in terms of production of steering systems.
The plant uses the latest technologies and is committed to continuously training its workforce. According to him, the implementation of the ecosystem of the PSA group in Morocco, the largest customer of JTEKT, encouraged the installation of the Japanese equipment manufacturer within the Kingdom.
JTEKT Automotive Morocco president, Laurent Perrotte, said that this new production site will allow the Japanese group to offer its historical customers a local integration, while allowing access to markets in Africa and the Middle East. East who are experiencing strong growth. "The JTEKT plant in Tangier has two production lines, the first of manual columns, the results of which are very promising, and the other for the production of power steering systems, which will start in 2020," he said. He underlines.
This Tangier plant, which manufactures and sells electric power steering systems and steering columns, is considered to be the first in the group comprising JTEKT Automotive Morocco and its manual column production subsidiary, Fuji Autotech. Morocco.
The start of the production of the different projects will take place between 2019 and 2020, with an expected annual capacity of 300,000 electric power steering systems and 700,000 manual columns for the Moroccan and European factories of international car manufacturers.
