In an interview with 'The Tennis Podcast' the former world number 4 Andrei Medvedev recalled the game played in Rome back in 2000 against Roger Federer. Medvedev beat the Swiss in three sets 3-6 6-3 7-5 but thinking about it 19 and a half years later, he admitted that he had not behaved properly.

"He should have won that game – admitted the Ukrainian -. I remember starting to make scenes with the referee, I received warnings and somehow I managed to win second and third set. But only thanks to luck.

In the locker room I told his coach Peter Lundgren how much Roger was unpredictable in hitting the ball. 'If this continues, it will be difficult just to play against it because it is an unknown factor

And I wasn't exactly the worst in tactics. I understood something about it. But he is a master at managing defeats, victories, in representing tennis. We can only compliment him. Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi were great testimonials of the sport, but Federer is great for everything he did on the pitch and especially outside.

It is very elegant. So coming back to that match, I admit to having cheated, respecting the rules since you can take warnings and complain. But never do it "
