As a good master of Android, Google intends to put some order – and control – this momentum by launching a Game Device Certification Program, as discovered by the teams of XDA-Developpers.
Similar in form to the Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) that concerns all "normal" Android devices, the document that our colleagues obtained is obviously focused on elements specific to gaming.
Thus, in Section 13 which describes the technical prerequisites, Google defines the components that must be embedded (a "high performance" GPU), the APIs that must absolutely be supported (Vulkan 1.1), the amount of memory and its behavior (at least 2.3 GB of memory ready to be allocated to a game), etc.
To add water to the mill, XDA has uncovered a job posting posted last May for an official of the "Android Game Device Certification" program, which was won by a former employee of Microsoft who just occupied this kind of role for over 7 years within the Xbox team …
