The National Defense Administration has issued a security bulletin warning of a virus targeting Android phone devices that could steal data from their users.
Google Project Zero security researchers have revealed a critical security vulnerability on Android devices to take full control of the smartphone says the bulletin. The problem lies in a kernel function that poorly handles the allocation of certain areas of memory.
Exploitation of this flaw may allow an attacker to cause a privilege elevation and succeed in executing the arbitrary code. The bulletin gave a non-exhaustive list of devices affected by this flaw: Pixel 1 / 1XL, Pixel 2L2XL, Huawei P20, Xiaomi Redmi 5A / Note 5 / A1, Oppo A3, Motorola Z3, LG Oreo and Samsung S7 / S8 / S9.
The administration advised the users of these devices to remain vigilant with regard to the nature of the data conveyed through these devices while waiting for the update of Android.
