In Mexico the Ferrari failed to realize a double front row exactly as it had happened in Japan. At Suzuka the redheads had lost the leadership already in the very first meters, with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc slowly starting to be fooled by Valtteri Bottas. Defending in Mexico City was even more difficult in light of the very long straight that separates the start from the first breakaway, but the SF90 managed to maintain the first and second positions but then lost them to the advantage of Lewis Hamilton with strategies that opened the doors wide to the victory of the world leader.
Conversion problems
Were not lacking critical for the team led by Mattia Binotto. The Ferrari SF90 has signed more pole position than the Mercedes W10 (nine to eight), but the partial of the victories is of 13 to 3. This means that on a strategic level the wall of the Brackley team is more reactive and original in trying to turn to own advantage the different race situations. In presenting the weekend of Austin Mattia Binotto pointed out that the three races that are still to be played in this 2019 are important to lay the definitive bases in view of a 2020 in which Ferrari will have to start immediately with the right foot to stop a fast that at the level of titles has lasted too long.
"We come from six consecutive pole positions, but also from three victories in the last six races: we want more than this – he has declared Mattia Binotto – he encourages us to know that we have a car package that puts us in a position to fight for the top step of the podium on most tracks. This is undoubtedly an improvement on how we started the season and this must be given credit for the hard work done by the guys, both in Maranello and on the track, which allowed us to return to competitive positions. The last three races of the season must serve us as a test bench in which to develop as a working group and to learn to operate in the best possible way for the next season. The fight is very close and every detail counts to bring home a higher number of victories. We hope that Austin will be the right place to put these concepts into practice. The track is very demanding, with a combination of very different curves. Obviously everyone's attention will be on the tires after the surprising longevity shown by Pirelli's hard compound in Mexico. We know that every track carries its component of surprises: on our part we must be able to frame the possible dynamics to prepare ourselves to react each time in the best way. Finally, we are happy to compete in the United States because it is one of the lands in which motorsport has more tradition. Last year we won and the team is very motivated to bring home a great result ".
